UFT members also are members of the AFT, which offers programs, discounts and promotions to its members through its AFT+ Member Benefits Program. These benefits can only be accessed by visiting the AFT+ Member Benefits page and logging in with your AFT or NYSUT member ID. 

If you do not have an AFT member card, you will need to create an account. Make sure your last name matches the last name on your UFT card. Enter your UFT or NYSUT ID number. Your "local union number" for the UFT is 00002. You can also request your AFT member ID number by calling member benefits at 202-393-8643.

You're also entitled to NYSUT member benefits and UFT Discounts.

Insurance

  • Auto, home and rental insurance
    AFT members receive discounts on policies from Farmers Insurance Choice.
  • Life insurance
    Members can obtain up to $500,000 of term life coverage through MetLife in increments of $25,000. No reduction of coveage due to age. Coverage ends at age 70. May not be available in all states. 
  • Disability income insurance 
    Voluntary insurance to provide income in the event of an accident or serious illness that prevents you from working. Benefits up to $5,000 available. Cost depends upon coverage, coverage length and elimination period.
  • Long-term care insurance
    Members and their families have access to a dedicated long-term care specialist with Back Nine Planning who can find the best solution for your anticipated long-term care needs, including home-based assistance
  • Senior term life insurance
    Members can get senior term life insurance to help pay for final expenses and ensure peace of mind.
  • Pet insurance
    Pets Best offers discounted pet insurance plans. Pet insurance reimburses you on your veterinary bills when your dog or cat gets sick or injured, giving you peace of mind as a pet parent.
  • Trauma coverage and free counseling
    The trauma counseling program is available to working members, free of charge, in the one-year aftermath of a covered traumatic incident.

Legal and financial services

  • Credit card
    The AFT+ credit card program offers three options.
  • Credit and budget counseling
    Members are eligible for a free consumer credit counseling session, budget analysis and money management advice.
  • Free Identity Theft Fraud Resolution Consultation  
    In the event you experience identity theft or resulting fraud, you can receive a free 60-minute consultation with a professional fraud resolution specialist. Services include learning how to restore your identity and good credit, protect yourself against further fraud or loss, and communicate with creditors and collection agencies. Other features include a free emergency response kit, assistance with the steps for disputing fraudulent debts, a free initial consult with an attorney and 25 percent off attorney’s customary fees or hourly rates.   • Union Plus Mortgage program
    The UnionPlus mortgage program, with financing available through Wells Fargo, is available to union members, their parents and their children. The program offers competitive interest rates on a wide range of mortgage options, and includes special hardship assistance in the event of disability, layoff or natural disasters.
  • Personal loans
    Credit-qualified members can take control of their finances by consolidating high-interest consumer and credit debt into a personal loan that features no hidden fees and one predictable monthly payment.
  • Real estate rewards
    Members can earn $500 cash back for every $100,000 in home value (an average of $1,173) through this rewards program powered by SIRVA.
  • Save My Home hotline
    Members facing foreclosure have access to confidential, free counseling provided by the nonprofit Money Management International.

Scholarships

  • Robert G. Porter Scholars Program
    Four-year, $8,000 post-secondary scholarships for high school seniors who are dependents of AFT members and 10 one-time $1,000 grants are awarded to members to assist with their continuing education and/or fund their proposed ideas to strengthen and grow their union.
  • UnionPlus Scholarship Program
    Scholarship amounts of $500 to $4,000 are available to current and retired union members, their spouses and their dependent children.

Shopping and food

  • Car sales
    Members can use TrueCar to get up-front pricing from local dealers. Members receive a $100 rebate on purchases of new, union-made cars and a $200 rebate on purchases of new, union-made EPA Green Cars.
  • Dansko shoes

    Members save 25% on flowers and plants from Teleflora.

Education and Learning 

  • NewsGuard literacy tool
    NewsGuard provides free access to their leading media literacy tool to all AFT members and their students and families. Included is a browser extension and mobile app that gives users real time access to “traffic light” news ratings and detailed nutrition label reviews.
