Sign Language Interpreters

Welcome to the Sign Language Interpreters Chapter website. Our members advocate for and promote cross-cultural communication while providing interpreting services and outreach to the NYCPS community.

Our goal is to ensure that deaf families, pedagogues and administrators, and the hearing individuals with whom they come into contact with have linguistic access to each other throughout the DOE academic experience. We provide deaf parents with the opportunity to participate fully in their children's academic lives and for deaf staff to communicate with their hearing colleagues and the parents who do not use sign language.

Our members bridge communication between the NYCPS and its deaf families and deaf staff by providing outreach and information to parent coordinators, principals, schools and other NYCPS departments on how to request services and work with the interpreting process.

The UFT Sign Language Interpreter Chapter’s members are committed to and take pride in providing top quality interpreting services to the NYCPS community.
