Our goal is to maintain a grassroots organization that serves the Muslim community while promoting connections within the UFT.
We strive to be:
- An organization that promotes the values of kindness, charity, patience, perseverance and neighborliness in the spirit of Islamic teachings.
- A welcoming place for people seeking an understanding of Islam and Muslims.
- A family-friendly facility where people young and old and of all genders are treated with respect, dignity and equality.

UFT Iftar Dinner 2026
The UFT Muslim Educators Committee held its third annual Iftar dinner on Feb. 27 at UFT headquarters. More than 200 members and guests attended, including schools Chancellor Kamar Samuels and Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who was awarded by the committee for his championing of public education. Attendees broke their Ramadan fast with a traditional meal of milk, water and dates, and later enjoyed a hearty dinner.
