The UFT Math Teachers Committee, an affiliate of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, supports teachers of mathematics and paras in New York City public schools. Our committee's members teach all fields and levels of mathematics included in the curriculum for pre-K, elementary, middle and high schools.
Our meetings and workshops cover a wide range of topics in mathematics as well as interdisciplinary subjects, from ideas for creative lesson plans to help with new math-related technologies.
We have organized workshops, for example, on the use of quilts and stained glass in math instruction and Texas Instruments' TI-NSpire calculator, a useful tool for both students and teachers to graph in color and to import photos.
Since 2008, we have worked in partnership with the New York City Art Teachers Association/UFT to host an ArtMath/MathArt workshop every May. Past ArtMath workshops have focused on fractals and on mathematical art.
