The UFT Divine Nine Committee, composed of members and staff belonging to historically Black Greek-letter organizations, embodies a mission to empower and unite UFT members and use education as a catalyst for community change.
Guided by the principles of scholarship, service and unity, we uphold the core beliefs of our respective organizations — Alpha Phi Alpha, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi, Omega Psi Phi, Delta Sigma Theta, Phi Beta Sigma, Zeta Phi Beta, Sigma Gamma Rho, and Iota Phi Theta — to inspire excellence in education. We are striving for a future in which the influence of Black Greek-letter organizations extends seamlessly into New York City public schools, ensuring that students encounter these esteemed traditions before stepping onto a college campus.
Our goals:
- To connect with UFT Divine Nine members across the educational field and strengthen our communication with them.
- To help build a coalition of members who will engage in community service and support social justice initiatives in the neighborhoods in which we teach.
- To conduct training sessions that will enhance the leadership skills of our membership.
