UFT endorses Scott Stringer for NYC mayor
The Delegate Assembly of the United Federation of Teachers, the union’s highest decision-making body, today endorsed Scott Stringer for mayor.
UFT President Michael Mulgrew, endorsed candidate Stringer, and educators will hold a live press conference at 6 p.m. tonight at UFT headquarters, 52 Broadway, NY, NY, 10004. Space is limited due to social distancing and seats will be given based on a first-come, first-served basis.
The presser will also be live-streamed for media with the ability to ask questions remotely.
The selection of a mayoral candidate was part of a four-month UFT vetting process for the 2021 local elections. Of the more than 40 declared candidates for mayor, 12 were selected for in-depth vetting by teams of UFT members. UFT members questioned the 12 candidates during five mayoral town halls. Over 12,000 members took part in the five town halls and were surveyed after each forum who they would vote for based on the candidates’ performances. More than 14,000 UFT members also submitted their comments to the new UFT political action website, NYC2021.uft.org, which logged more than 1.4 million views.
