The New York City Art Teachers Association/UFT’s Dreams Art Show had special meaning for art teacher Kirsten Rorke. Rorke, of PS 373@IS 61 on Staten Island, had been working on an edition of mixed media messages inspired by what she calls “visits to ghost world in my dreams.” She said the dreams, which began when she became a widow, “were subconsciously inspired by the spirits of the women who came before me and lifted me up.” Rorke’s art and works by 22 other UFT members, both in service and retired, were on display at the Dreams Art Show at the Bernie Wohl Center in Manhattan. “I want to congratulate those who had their work exhibited,” said Mario Asaro, the president of the committee. More than 100 family and friends, he said, turned out for the show’s opening on May 10 “to celebrate the educators’ creativity.” The works will remain at the site until June 24 and are on display virtually on the NYCATA website.
