Recognizing 53 years of fighting for paras

"If you're a paraprofessional, please stand up," UFT President Michael Mulgrew said to the crowd at Teacher Union Day on Nov. 6. As scores of paraprofessionals stood to thunderous applause, he turned to Shelvy Young-Abrams, their just-retired chapter leader, on the stage beside him.

Thanksgiving Luncheon

"Good job!" Ilyana Frias told a 5-year-old kindergartener from PS 92 in Harlem as he worked at a craft table during the UFT’s Thanksgiving Luncheon for children in need on Nov. 19 at union headquarters in Manhattan.

UFT holiday party and toy drive

The UFT welcomed 80 children from eight city shelters to a special holiday celebration organized in partnership with Coalition for the Homeless on Dec. 10 at union headquarters in Manhattan.

Psychologists Appreciation Day 2022

More than 100 school psychologists came to UFT headquarters on Nov. 10, with hundreds more attending remotely, to mark the union’s sixth annual Psychologists Appreciation Day.

Parent conferences

More than 300 parents turned out on Nov. 5 at the UFT borogh offices in Queens and on Staten Island for a day of workshops, food and fun at the union’s parent conferences, the first in-person parent conferences in those boroughs since the COVID-19 pandemic began.

New Retiree Luncheons 2022

More than 1,400 members gathered at the New York Hilton Midtown for two New Retiree Luncheons in November to celebrate their service to the city's public school students and the new chapter in their lives.
