My students were among the more than 250 high school students who attended this UFT event on Oct. 20. The article (“A primer about organized labor,” New York Teacher, Nov. 3) is correct in that representatives from 25 unions were able to speak about the advantages of pursuing a union career, and there was a chance to hear from a panel of union workers. I think it should be added that each union had information for the students about opportunities and direct paths to apprenticeships at different programs throughout the city. Also, the unions present represented careers in the trades, the arts, health care, education, transit, etc. This event was so wonderful in both educating students and building solidarity among trade unionists that I wish our members/readers had more to read about this event.
