Resolution against recent hate-filled attacks
WHEREAS, the United Federation of Teachers expresses horror at the recent violent attacks on Jewish people in the region and elsewhere who have been assaulted on the streets, in stores, in places of worship and in their homes; and
WHEREAS, the UFT has always opposed anti-Semitism; and
WHEREAS, the UFT opposes bigotry and discrimination based on race, religion, national origin, immigration status, ethnicity, sexual orientation and gender; and
WHEREAS, the Jewish members of the UFT take enormous pride in their contributions to this great union; and WHEREAS, the UFT is an inclusive body that values its diverse membership and opposes hate; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that we call upon the leadership of the country to end its language that fans the flames of hatred; be it
RESOLVED, the UFT condemns the recent anti-Semitic attacks in New York, New Jersey and elsewhere and reaffirms its determination to deter anti-Semitism; and be it further
RESOLVED, the UFT unequivocally condemns not only anti-Semitism, but all forms of racism and discrimination; and be it further
RESOLVED, the UFT reaffirms its opposition to hate and discrimination based on race, religion, ethnicity, national origin, immigration status, sexual orientation and gender.
