Bruce Davidson, Age 84
Bruce Samuel Davidson, a former high school teacher, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2016 in New York City.
From a young age, Bruce was passionate about social justice and dedicated to helping the less fortunate.
Bruce was a beloved history teacher in Norwalk, Connecticut, at George Washington HS in Manhattan and then at John F. Kennedy HS in the Bronx for many years.
Bruce was a staunch union and civil rights activist. He served as a district strike captain during the Ocean Hill Brownsville action, visiting a number of schools in the Washington Heights area.
He was elected chapter leader of the UFT chapter at George Washington HS. In this role, he worked hard in defense of colleagues and organized a memorial assembly in memory of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. at which he addressed a packed house in the school's auditorium.
He retired in the 1987 to pursue his hobbies, which grew to include: traveling, playing and teaching bridge, spoiling his children and grandchildren and collecting stamps, coins and first day covers.
He will long be remembered and missed by colleagues, friends, family and students.
