LearnUFT courses for Social Workers/Psychologists/LMHCs

As a state-approved provider of Continuing Education hours for Licensed Master Social Workers (LMSW), Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW), Psychologists and Licensed Mental Health Counselors, the UFT's LearnUFT program offers low-cost professional learning opportunities specifically designed to meet our members’ needs.

Every LMSW and LCSW must complete 36 hours of approved continuing education courses for each triennial registration period. No more than 12 hours of continuing education activities in any 36 month period, or one-third of the total hours in periods of other length, may consist of self-study educational activities from New York State Education Department-approved providers.

Licensed Mental Health Counselors are also eligible to take these courses and earn CEUs.

Social Workers and Psychologists are invited to register for this UFT Member Assistance Program professional development workshop. In this session, registrants will learn the fundamentals of dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), including its principles and how to apply them in their practice. Participants will earn two Continuing Education credits for each workshop they complete.

In this session, participants will learn tips, tricks and tools to address mental wellness through an innovative and holistic lens. Participants will earn two Continuing Education credits for each workshop they complete.

Social Workers and Psychologists are invited to register for this UFT Member Assistance Program professional development workshop. This training will focus on the foundational elements of group psychotherapy. The session will begin with covering the modern analytic technique of therapeutic contracting to engage group members early in the group process, then will explore the stages of group development outlined by Tuckman: forming, storming, group norming, performing and adjourning. This training will also explore using group members’ resistances to the group and the contract to facilitate improved emotional communication and other modern techniques.  Participants will earn two Continuing Education credits for each workshop they complete.

Social Workers and Psychologists are invited to register for this UFT Member Assistance Program professional development workshop. This workshop will address substance use trends in teenagers, warning signs to identify when use becomes misuse, strategies for engaging teenagers from a prevention and an intervention standpoint, and ways that parents and educators can empower teens to make healthy decisions about drugs and alcohol. Participants will earn two Continuing Education credits for each workshop they complete.

In this workshop, participants will learn how to effectively apply dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) skills in a school setting. This workshop is ideal for educators, administrators and school mental health professionals seeking to enhance their skills and knowledge in supporting students' well-being and fostering a positive school climate. Participants will earn two Continuing Education credits for each workshop they complete.
