Doris Iskaros, Age 56
Doris Iskaros began her teaching career over 30 years ago at a school in East New York, Brooklyn. She remained there for two years and then spent the next 20 years away from teaching. But her desire to return to teaching bought her to PS 186 in Queens, the Castlewood School, in 2004. She came back to the profession as a substitute teacher, moved on to part-time and then became a full-time teacher in 2008. Throughout her years of teaching, Doris touched the lives of the many students that she taught. She was also committed to the union and served as a chapter leader for two and a half years. She attended meetings, sold tickets for the District 26 raffle, participated in Lobby Day and never missed the dinner-dance. Doris’ many hobbies included playing guitar, arts and crafts, and attending Broadway musicals. She was an avid reader of historical books and was a big sports fan, especially of the Mets and the Jets. Doris is survived by her husband, Ralph Iskaros as well as her children, Danny, Laura and Maria. She also leaves behind three sisters: Ann Marie, Sheila, and Franny, and their families.
