Rose M. Sabatino, Age 93
Rose M. Sabatino died on Nov. 21, 2016 at home in Manhattan. She was 93.
A longtime UFT member, she was a secretary at Brooklyn Technical High School. Rose worked in the admissions office, where she was responsible for administering the specialized high school admissions test. The exam is given each year to 8th- and 9th-graders from around the city and Rose was only the second person in the history of the school to perform that duty. At a time when the enrollment at Brooklyn Tech exceeded 6,000 students and technology in schools was unheard of, Rose’s ability to excel at her job without the aid of a computer was a testament to her extraordinary organizational skills. A friend to all, she was an integral part of the elite school, woven into its fabric during her 25-year career there.
Each day before work, Rose would rise at 4:30 a.m. to practice yoga and spend some creative sewing time on her mother’s sewing machine. She also enjoyed cooking for her family, especially on Sundays.
Her selflessness and her credo to always help one another will remain in the hearts of her five children and their families.
