Whether you take off July and August or will be working, summer is often experienced as a season full of possibility. Lists of what teachers and others should do over the summer are all over the Internet.
We thought we’d try something a little different and list 10 things that UFT members may want to avoid this summer, with some listed for fun and others in a more serious vein. And in the spirit of the now-ended “Late Show with David Letterman,” we give our list as a countdown.
- 10. Don’t stay inside all the time if you can avoid it. Summer is fleeting.
- 9. Don’t forget your sunscreen when you go outside.
- 8. Don’t post pictures to Facebook or other social media of your having too much fun — but have fun.
- 7. When taking selfies on an outing or trip, don’t stand too close to the edge of that cliff, no matter how gorgeous the view.
- 6. Don’t miss opportunities to laugh.
- 5. Don’t miss doing at least one thing you may not be able to do during the rest of the year — take in a ballgame, a museum, a film screening or go for a hike, a walk in the park, a picnic with a friend.
- 4. Don’t worry if you don’t get to every activity or project on your summer to-do list.
- 3. Don’t forget to take time to relax and rejuvenate.
- 2. Don’t lose touch with us. The UFT will be posting on Facebook, Twitter and our website all summer. We would love to keep reading your Facebook comments and tweets and to keep getting your retweets.
- 1. Don’t for a moment forget that whether you are a teacher, a paraprofessional or a nurse or hold another job title, you are a UFT member dedicating your life to helping children, patients or other vulnerable people. No work is more important, and that is a reason for you to be proud.
