UFT Vaccine Program Update
Approximately 17,000 teachers and other educators responded in the first 24 hours to the UFT survey by saying they were interested in getting the vaccine as soon as possible (there is no deadline for applying through our program so more teachers may respond in the future).
Using information the members supplied in their survey responses, the UFT has sent nearly 7,000 names to our partner health care providers, the NYU Langone hospital system and EmblemHealth, who said they had that many vaccine doses available. The UFT is giving priority to those members who currently have an in-person assignment. Given, however, the limits of the supply and our provider locations, willingness to travel will expedite a member being matched with a provider.
Teachers will work out scheduling with the providers. As these providers get additional available doses – and as other providers join the program – the UFT will send them additional names of those seeking vaccines.
The UFT program is designed to supplement other public vaccination programs, which teachers can also use. We have asked the providers in our program to share the total number of teachers vaccinated through this initiative. These totals – when we get them – will not include teachers vaccinated through other programs or other providers.
