How occupational and physical therapists can calculate their gross annual salary

How to calculate your gross annual salary using your paycheck

Here’s how to figure out your annual salary by looking at your biweekly paycheck.

  1. Add together the recurring gross, recurring education differential and recurring longevity differential that appear on your paychecks.
  2. Divide the total by 14 (for the number of calendar days).
  3. Multiply that amount by 365 (366 during a leap year).

NOTE:  On your check there is one amount for longevity. It is composed of your longevity A and longevity B. If you subtract your applicable A and B longevity amounts from the total longevity amount shown on your check, the balance is your longevity for five, seven, 10, 15, 20 or 22 years.

There are six components that make up the gross annual salary for therapists:

  • Base plus experience differential
  • Education differential
  • Longevity differential A*
  • Longevity differential B*
  • Longevity differential
  • Uniform allowance

*Payments for longevity differentials A and B shall be effective on the Jan. 1 or July 1 subsequent to the employee’s anniversary date. The longevity differential A becomes pensionable after it is received for two years. Longevity B is pensionable immediately.

Here is an example based on our Sept. 1, 2014 salary schedule.

Years of ServiceLongevity ALongevity B
1$784$594
2$1,652$1,099
  • After your first year of service longevity A is $784 and longevity B is $594.
  • After your second year of service longevity A increases to $1,652 and longevity B increases to $1,099 and will be received every year after that.
  • In addition to the A and B longevities, an additional longevity is payable on your anniversary date after the completion of five years, seven years, 10 years, 15 year, 20 years and 22 years.
