Fatimah Ojesanmi, in her second year as a special education teacher at the Manhattan Business Academy, wants to stay on top of information about her pension. That’s why she attended the UFT’s Jan. 30 Meet and Greet for members at the Bayard Rustin Educational Complex in Chelsea, where Ojesanmi’s school and five others are located. Speakers from the UFT and its state affiliate, NYSUT, answered questions on topics including pension, licensing and certification, health benefits, special education rules, safety and teacher evaluations. “There was something for everybody, and for them to come here made it more accessible,” said Ojesanmi, one of 70 members who attended the event. “Members had a chance to ask questions and sign up for COPE,” said Ruth Groebner, the chapter leader at Hudson HS. “The feedback I got from members was fantastic.” A representative from Massage Envy was also on hand to give members on-the-spot five-minute massages.
