The former colleagues of murdered teacher Jeanine Cammarata want #JusticeforJeanine, as the trending hashtag spells out. But the UFT members at the schools where Cammarata worked also expressed hope her death would shed light on the evil of domestic violence.

UFT members elected Michael Mulgrew to a fourth term as president of the union with 86.2 percent of the votes cast. The American Arbitration Association announced the tally on April 18.

UFT President Michael Mulgrew warned the Delegate Assembly on April 17 that anti-union forces looking to take advantage of the 2018 Supreme Court decision in the Janus case have begun their efforts to weaken New York City public school teachers’ collective power.


The nation’s first-ever strike by unionized charter school teachers occurred in Chicago in December and set a precedent for other charter schools in the Windy City struggling with low teacher pay, crowded classrooms and poor funding. 

Boys and Girls HS has turned the corner. The once-troubled Brooklyn school has been taken out of state receivership – a designation for long struggling schools – and out of the city Board of Education’s Renewal Schools program, and it marked the milestone with a celebration in the school gym.


Members of the Federation of Nurses/UFT at Staten Island University Hospital South on March 29 overwhelmingly ratified a contract that includes their top priorities: an increased nurse-to-patient ratio and preservation of their UFT Healthcare Chapter Benefit Fund benefits.
