Dorothy Evans, Age 72
Dorothy Evans died on April 19, 2017, at the age of 72.
Born in Millen, Georgia, she lived in Manhattan.
Dorothy was a paraprofessional at PS 75 in the Bronx and a UFT member for 29 years. She was a UFT para representative and always attended the UFT Delegate Assembly and participated in parades and rallies. Friends say she was known as the “phone bank princess” for all her UFT phone bank work.
At PS 75, Dorothy managed the school’s Right to Read lab and assisted in the math lab.
Thechapter leader at the school, CarolEhrenpreis, said Dorothy did a good job wherever she was assigned and praised her willingness to always lend a hand, including writing letters to new paras and taking notes for Ehrenpreis if she couldn’t attend the Delegate Assembly.
“She was that kind of person. When I first took on this position five years ago, Dorothy helped me with my role,”Ehrenpreis said. “She provided tremendous support and praise. I love her for the kindness she has shown me over the years.”
Dorothy will be missed by her friends and former colleagues, who are planning a memorial at the school on June 12.
She leaves behind six nieces and nephews, nine grandnieces and grandnephews, and 15 great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.
