As a member of the UFT Delegate Assembly since 1988, I read fellow retiree Martin Boxer’s critique of the UFT endorsement policy [Comments, Dec. 6] with utter disbelief.
The UFT and NYSUT have endorsed MANY Republicans in the past as long as they were public education advocates.
In fact, we endorsed New York Gov. George Pataki, a Republican, when he helped our union reach a contract that helped members and kids.
The fact that today’s GOP would never endorse Abe Lincoln — who Trump claims to outpoll — as well as the rightward/anti-public school/anti-union lurch of their recent candidates, fully explains our recent endorsements.
