The UFT rolled out the welcome wagon as some 1,500 new teachers signed up to join the union on opening day of the DOE’s New Teacher Week.

Danielle Norensberg, who will teach at Abraham Lincoln HS in Brooklyn, and Stephanie Villarona, who will teach at PS 97 in Queens, show off the union swag — including a tote filled with school supplies and a bento-style lunchbox — they collected after joining the UFT.

Michael Dotzler and Breanna Ortiz, who both will teach at MS 53 Brian Piccolo in Far Rockaway, Queens, join their fellow new members in the auditorium for welcome speeches and UFT presentations on everything from certification and licensing to salary steps, tenure and more.

Newly minted UFT member Uduak Udoh, who will teach 6th and 7th grades at Village Academy in Queens, beams with pride.
