UFT on Gov. Hochul's State of the State address
On Jan. 5, 2022, Gov. Kathy Hochul delivered her first State of the State address, during which she announced that New York State will finally deliver on the promise of the Campaign for Fiscal Equity and phase in full funding of Foundation Aid to New York school districts by the 2023-24 school year.
In response, UFT President Michael Mulgrew issued the following statement:
Gov. Hochul understands the impact public schools have on our students’ lives and so is proposing fully funding our schools for the first time in decades.
By sending billions of additional Foundation Aid dollars to public schools — in particular, to schools serving higher-need students — she is laying the foundation for all our children to flourish.
By expanding access to the most cutting-edge career and technical education, Gov. Hochul is making sure all our students experience the connection between school and the world of work.
By investing in programs to address our students’ social and emotional needs, Gov. Hochul is giving educators the professional support to help students thrive.
This proposed budget puts our children first.
