On March 30, 2020, Sandra Santos-Vizcaino, a third-grade teacher at PS 9 in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn, died from complications of the coronavirus.

UFT President Michael Mulgrew issued the following statement:

Our hearts go out to the family, friends and colleagues of Sandra Santos-Vizcaino. She was a loved and respected educator at PS 9 in Brooklyn, and was selfless when it came to caring for her students and her school community.
