UFT Statement on DOE–SCA Proposed Capital Plan
The UFT issued a statement in response to the proposed five-year capital plan recently issued by the New York City School Construction Authority.
“New York City will need more classroom seats and it will need them built in the most overcrowded areas to meet the state law mandating smaller classes for all city public school students by 2028. None of that is clear in the DOE’s latest capital plan. Since the law was passed, the DOE has instead reduced funding for new seats.
I doubt that Albany, which passed the law to correct years of underfunding and inequity, will accept any city excuses.”
