These members are replacing elected chapter leaders who, for a variety of reasons, did not finish their terms of office. The three new chapter leaders will serve the remainder of the three-year term, which ends June 30, 2021.

UFT functional chapters represent members whose common bond is the job's function or title — such as guidance counselors, school secretaries or school nurses — as opposed to a school or worksite. Chapter leaders advocate for the common concerns of their chapter members and help them resolve grievances or workplace issues.

School-based functional chapter members belong to both the school chapter and the appropriate functional chapter.
