UFT members showed up at five simultaneous contract rallies — one in each borough — on May 24 to turn up the pressure on the city and the Department of Education to agree to a fair contract by the end of the school year.

The fact is our paraprofessionals cannot survive in this city on a starting salary of just under $32,000. Without offering more money, the DOE cannot hope to retain and recruit enough paraprofessionals.

We are calling on members of the New York City Council to pass legislation to give every UFT-represented paraprofessional an annual recurring payment of approximately $10,000. Please join us in the fight ahead to pass this legislation.
