In the event of a major storm, the chancellor will determine whether to open, close or delay the opening of school. The union will try to convince the chancellor to do what is safe.
The DOE may also pivot to remote instruction, for which digital classrooms will be used.
In the event that the chancellor closes schools, all administrative offices of the DOE are open (unless reported otherwise) and all UFT employees in those offices are expected to report to work. If you stay home, the day will be deducted from your CAR.
Radio and TV will have the most up-to-date information. If you have signed up for UFT text messages, you will receive a text from the union with timely information. Announcements about weather-related openings and closings will also be posted on the UFT Facebook page and on the home page of the UFT website.
