Jason Klein, the chapter leader at Medgar Evers Preparatory Academy, is now in the seventh round of his annual fight to bring class size under control in his high-achieving, overcrowded Bronx school.

Equilibrium has returned to MS 61, a well-respected Crown Heights school in with a strong gifted-and-talented program, after its relentless chapter leader took steps to get a bullying principal removed.

UFT is well-positioned to protect its members’ rights and benefits as the 2018–19 school years gets underway, President Michael Mulgrew reported to chapter leaders from across the city at their annual start-of-school meeting on Sept. 20 in Shanker Hall.


Revitalizing the UFT chapter at Marble Hill HS for International Studies in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx, says Chapter Leader Patrick Bernal, has been an important learning process for everyone.

The UFT began the first fact-finding hearing for a new contract on May 6. The dispute pivots largely on the question of pattern bargaining. The UFT’s position is that its members are entitled to the same raises as other city workers have received. The DOE counters that it can't afford it.
