UFT is well-positioned to protect its members’ rights and benefits as the 2018–19 school years gets underway, President Michael Mulgrew reported to chapter leaders from across the city at their annual start-of-school meeting on Sept. 20 in Shanker Hall.


The provision by Washington state lawmakers of an additional $776 million in the state budget for teacher salaries sparked tense negotiations this summer between teachers’ unions and local school districts throughout the state. 

Because your pension is one of the most important benefits you have as a UFT member, the union’s Pension Department is expanding its outreach to help today’s in-service members better understand their pensions and plan for retirement.

The UFT has filed two grievances with the city Department of Education on behalf of more than a dozen teachers over substandard seating provided to them in January and June for grading Regents exams at distributive scoring sites. 


Federal workers are in the president’s crosshairs. Right before Labor Day 2018, and just days after a judge foiled Donald Trump’s attempt to hurt those workers and their unions through executive orders, Trump fired back with a plan to cancel their scheduled pay raise.
