Bronx Health Reach

The Bronx Health REACH Coalition was formed in 1999 to eliminate racial and ethnic disparities in health outcomes in diabetes in African American and Latino communities in the southwest Bronx. Led by the Institute for Family Health, the coalition includes over 60 community-based organizations, health care providers, faith-based institutions, a public interest law firm, and housing and social service agencies. In 2007 Bronx Health REACH received designation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as a Center of Excellence in Eliminating Disparities (CEED) and now serves as a national resource center.

GrowNYC

GrowNYC is a hands-on non-profit which improves New York City’s quality of life through environmental programs that transform communities block by block and empower all New Yorkers to secure a clean and healthy environment for future generations.

For 40 years, GrowNYC has been rolling up its sleeves alongside NYC residents to:

  • Provide access to healthy, fresh, local food for all New Yorkers
  • Grow and maintain vibrant green spaces and community gardens.
  • Help New Yorkers recycle more and reduce waste.
  • Create the next generation of environmental leaders through hands-on education programs.

Junior Energy

Junior Energy's mission is to work in classrooms and schools to help children discover how they can positively impact the planet by engaging their parents, family, friends and neighbors in small, simple actions.

NAACP Parkchester Branch

The mission of the NAACP is to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate race-based discrimination.

The following statement of objectives is found on the first page of the NAACP Constitution - the principal objectives of the Association shall be:

  • To ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of all citizens
  • To achieve equality of rights and eliminate race prejudice among the citizens of the United States
  • To remove all barriers of racial discrimination through democratic processes
  • To seek enactment and enforcement of federal, state, and local laws securing civil rights
  • To inform the public of the adverse effects of racial discrimination and to seek its elimination
  • To educate persons as to their constitutional rights and to take all lawful action to secure the exercise thereof, and to take any other lawful action in furtherance of these objectives, consistent with the NAACP's Articles of Incorporation and this Constitution.

New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene

The mission of the Department of Health’s District Public Health Offices (DPHOs) is to advance health equity across New York City by targeting resources, programs, and attention to high-need neighborhoods in the South Bronx, East and Central Harlem, and North and Central Brooklyn. The DPHOs work to ensure that conditions for good health - available, sustainable, high-quality services and efficient, effective systems - flourish in these neighborhoods. They further this mission by:

  • Administering programs on priority health issues
  • Focusing and coordinating the work of central DOHMH programs
  • Informing, developing, and advocating for policy change
  • Conducting research and disseminating public health information
  • Supporting and assisting community residents and organizations

Office of the Bronx Borough President

The office of Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz maintains a health department concerned with health issues in the borough. Its mission is to improve the health indicators of the constituents of the Bronx; raise awareness on all national, state and city health issues; advocate for good health policies and support smart healthcare reform and legislation.

The Food Bank For NYC

The Food Bank For New York City has served for 27 years as the city's major hunger-relief organization working to end food poverty throughout the five boroughs. As one of the country's largest food banks, our mission is to end hunger in New York City by organizing food, information and support for community survival and dignity. As the city's hub for integrated food poverty assistance, the Food Bank tackles the hunger issue on three fronts — food distribution, income support and nutrition education — all strategically guided by its research.

Food Fight

Food Fight believes that knowledge is power. Using schools as a platform, FoodFight arms teachers, parents and students with the tools and knowledge they need to make healthier choices and become role models and agents of change for their schools and families. Food Fight believes that education is a crucial element in combating America's health crisis and that schools should be at the forefront of a campaign to transform our nation's eating habits and lead us towards a more healthful and sustainable future.
