The UFT’s Hellenic American Educators Association took a trip back in time at its Greek Independence Day Celebration on March 22 at UFT headquarters in Manhattan, where historical consultant and music composer Vassilios Chrissochos gave a video presentation titled “1821 — The Liberation of Greece.” Demetra Savopolis, a retired teacher and the group’s president, chaired the event, which included a lavish Greek buffet for the 35 members and guests. “I’ve traveled to Greece a few times, and I’m moved by the culture,” said Raymond Abbazio, an occupational therapist at P 23 @ Lifeline Center for Child Development in Queens Village. “The people are always very hospitable and warm. And I love Greek food.”
