Staten Island Borough Representative Sean Rotkowitz leads the way as members make their way out to the links by golf cart.

The destruction from recent hurricanes Helene and Milton was on the mind of Luke Andrews, the chapter leader at the Urban Assembly Academy of Government and Law in Manhattan, when he stepped onto the first tee at the UFT’s Invitational Golf Outing at the Silver Lake Golf Course on Staten Island. The Oct. 14 event was a fundraiser for the UFT Disaster Relief Fund. “There are a lot of disasters to relieve right now,” Andrews said. “Spending time in the sun and having a good time for a great cause — what could be better?” More than 120 turned out for the day’s golf, luncheon and prizes. UFT Brooklyn High Schools Special Representative Jason Goldberg, the event co-chair, said the funds raised this year will be put to good use helping people in need. “This was the kind of enthusiastic type of effort the UFT makes for causes it cares about — and everyone had a great time,” he said.
