More than 2,100 students from 48 high schools traveled with their teachers to attend the UFT Bronx College Fair on March 22 at the union’s Bronx borough office. Ninety-eight mainland U.S. universities were represented — plus six from Puerto Rico and one from Cuba. “We try to bring as many of our 10th-graders as we can, plus some 9th-graders,” said Martin Castro, a global history teacher at International Community HS, who takes students to the fair each year and took 80 this year. “We saw that many students didn’t start focusing on college until 12th grade and that was often too late. We want them to start thinking about it earlier.”
