The Trump administration has issued a memo that sets in motion the denial of collective bargaining rights to some 750,000 unionized civilian employees of the U.S. Department of Defense.

Educators at Elm Community Charter School in Queens overcame resistance from their administration to organize a successful vote to join the UFT on Feb. 7.

The Federation of Nurses/UFT on Feb. 27 overwhelmingly ratified a two-year contract with NYU Langone Hospital – Brooklyn that increases salaries, rewards experience and specialty training, and enriches staffing, the top priority for many of the 900 nurses in the chapter.

Educators, students and parents in Bushwick, Brooklyn, turned out in force at a hearing on Feb. 10 to protest the proposed expansion of a charter school in their district.

Cheryl Martin was worried sick for years about her student debt: $166,000 that hung over her like a cloud nearly a decade after she left graduate school. "The anxiety I had was tremendous," said Martin, a teacher at PS 449 in the Bronx.
