Regarding James J. D’Amico’s letter “Country’s benefits ‘reserved for legal citizens’” [Feb. 7], I am sorry he is unaware that undocumented immigrants are guaranteed the right to attend public school according to the U.S. Supreme Court (Plyler v. Doe, 1982).

A century ago, our country had vastly different rules when it permitted my Italian grandparents (and, I suspect, Mr. D’Amico’s ancestors, too) to enter the land of their dreams.

I see no reason why we don’t allow our neighbors to the south to live their dreams of a life free of violence in our country today. These immigrants have the legal right to an education and to seek asylum.

Kudos for printing my letter. However, you changed the word “illegal” to “undocumented” twice. The latter word is the politically correct word for illegal.

But I have never been politically correct, and I am proud of that. Illegal means illegal.
