Ed Greenspan was right to take the leadership of the UFT to task for its endorsement of Florida gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum, who “came out fiercely against Israel” [Comments: “Backed the wrong candidate,” Feb. 7].
The larger point should not be lost: Leadership has moved as far to the left as the Democratic Party cares to drag it — most importantly for me, on the so-called “social issues” of abortion and gay marriage.
Gov. Cuomo’s recent flirtation with late-term abortion will further widen the rift that already exists between the leadership of our union and a significant part of the rank and file. Is there no such thing as going too far?
