Joe Biden to speak at Teacher Union Day
The United Federation of Teachers, as part of its national union’s presidential endorsement process, will host Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden at the UFT’s annual Teacher Union Day on Oct. 20 in New York City.
“Joe Biden has been a longtime champion of public education and a voice for working people. We look forward to hosting him — and other candidates over the coming months — as our members prepare for an election that is so important for the future of our students, our families and this country,” said UFT President Michael Mulgrew.
As the American Federation of Teachers’ largest affiliate, the UFT hosted former presidential candidate Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand at its 2019 Spring Conference, and UFT members have taken part in livestreamed Town Hall events, including Sen. Bernie Sanders, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Sen. Kamala Harris, Sen. Amy Klobuchar, former Rep. Beto O’Rourke, Rep. Tim Ryan, Gov. Steve Bullock, Vice President Biden and former U.S. secretary of housing and urban development Julian Castro.
The UFT’s Teacher Union Day will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Oct. 20, at the New York Hilton, 1335 6th Ave, Manhattan, 10019.
