On Aug. 7, 2020, Gov. Cuomo announced that the coronavirus infection rate has declined enough for New York State school districts to be eligible to open their schools.

In response, UFT President Michael Mulgrew issued the following statement: 

As Gov. Cuomo noted, parents and teachers must be confident that schools are safe before they can reopen. In New York City that is still an open question.
