On Oct. 4, 2020, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that schools in nine ZIP codes in Brooklyn and Queens with high rates of COVID-19 infection would close.

In response, UFT President Michael Mulgrew issued the following statement: 

This is the right decision, one that helps protect our schools, our neighborhoods, and ultimately our city.
