UFT statement on federal court hearing on congestion pricing
Lawyers representing the United Federation of Teachers, Staten Island Borough President Vito Fossella, civil rights organizations, the Municipal Labor Committee, and nearly two dozen elected officials will be in federal court Friday, May 17, looking for the court to reject the current MTA congestion pricing plan.
"We have been clear that this current MTA plan moves pollution and congestion out of Manhattan and sends it into the other boroughs and neighborhoods already dealing with environmental hazards. The MTA then asks these same communities to carry all the cost of making life better in Manhattan," said Michael Mulgrew, president of the United Federation of Teachers. "It is not fair, and we are asking the courts to tell the MTA to come up with a better plan."
The case, 24-cv-1644, will be among the congestion pricing cases heard between 9 a.m. and 5:10 p.m. on Friday before Judge Lewis Liman at Daniel Patrick Moynihan United States Courthouse, 500 Pearl St., New York, NY 10007-1312.
