Members in the New Jersey RTC section brushed up on their virtual phone banking skills in mid-October during a Zoom meeting as the governor’s race in the Garden State entered its final weeks. Gov. Phil Murphy is seeking reelection against a Republican opponent who supports many of former President Trump’s positions. The race has narrowed considerably as Election Day approaches. Mark Chaykin, RTC political director for New Jersey, said retirees from the New Jersey section made calls to more than 3,000 UFT members, both retirees and in-service members. The first calls placed were to those who voted in the 2020 presidential election, he said. After that list was completed, the RTC volunteers reached out to other UFT members who live in New Jersey and are registered Democrats.
