Teachers are no strangers to performing in front of audiences, so it’s no surprise many educators feel an affinity with the arts. The UFT Teacher Center’s Dec. 1 citywide arts conference, “The Artistic Processes: Creating, Presenting, Responding and Connecting,” gave participants a chance to flex their creative muscles. “My work as a dance-theater-music educator has always emphasized creative expression and learning through movement, so I found it particularly effective that the conference allowed for our active participation,” said Janie Iadipaolo of PS 321, Brooklyn. After attending a workshop about how to bring theater strategies to the classroom, paraprofessional Qi Dan Lei of PS 503 in Brooklyn, said, “We were able to indulge our creativity.”
