Resolution to promote humanitarianism in the Middle East
Whereas, there is a long history of conflicts and wars pitting Israelis and Palestinians against each other with the latest escalation starting on October 7th, 2023; and
Whereas, this current conflict has already claimed the lives of thousands and jeopardizes the lives of millions of civilians, including children; and
Whereas, the lack of access to electricity, gas, water food, and first-aid supplies has resulted in a humanitarian crisis among all civilians in Gaza, including children; and
Whereas, scores of hostages remain captive; and
Whereas, during these times of violence, fear, and suffering we cannot ignore the principles of humanity; Therefore, be it
Resolved, the United Federation of Teachers stands with all those calling for the immediate and safe release of all hostages and; be it further
Resolved, the UFT calls for the continued delivery of humanitarian aid and the return of utilities to all civilians of Gaza, including children, and; be it further
Resolved, that the UFT calls upon those working to de-escalate the conflict also work to promote humanitarianism and be it further
Resolved, the UFT remains committed to the founding principles of building across differences for a better world.
