Resolution in support of fairness in excessing
WHEREAS, UFT-represented employees and CSA-represented employees can be excessed in accordance with collective bargaining agreements; and
WHEREAS, in some cases, principals have more APs than they need or can afford but are not permitted by the NYC DOE to excess them; and
WHEREAS, with school budget cuts, the excessing disproportionately falls on UFT-represented employees; and
WHEREAS, when a principal is forced to excess UFT-represented employees instead of being able to excess an AP who may not be needed, the excessing can create hardships in providing mandated services for ENL students and students with special needs; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the UFT will advocate for a policy that does not require excessing to disproportionately affect UFT-represented employees or negatively impact the ability to provide services for students.
